The first trees in the new Our School Orchard community project have been planted. Newport Community School Primary Academy in Barnstaple received three young apple trees to plant in their school garden. Before the Easter holidays the academy’s Reception class put on their wellies and saw how a tree is planted.

They have been planted at the bottom of our school field on the edge of our Go Wild Area. Our Reception class were excited to see the finished product. Just today we have noticed the buds are are beginning to shoot so we look forward to seeing what happens over Easter.
Newport Community School joined several others from their own Tarka Learning Partnership Multi-Academy Trust along with two schools from the TEAM Multi-Academy Trust to receive trees in the first phase of the project. Pupils from each school attended a short training course to learn more about apple trees and how best to plant them. The schools left with three different varieties of apple tree to plant in their school grounds.

Our School Orchard is a joint project between Orchards Live and project sponsors Atlas Packaging.
